to his wife
'My wife was a very smart lawyer. She specialized in corporate takeovers and flew all over the world. I was a manager in the IT sector and a lecturer in International Management. At the age of 65, we both retired. Since we don't have children, we started thinking about what to do with our savings. Because of our shared love for classical music, we decided to support The Netherlands Musical Instruments Foundation financially.'
‘My wife included in her will that a sum of money would be used after her death to support promising young musicians. Preferably players of string instruments. The Netherlands Musical Instruments Foundation could use that money in various ways, for example by having talents follow a masterclass or in the form of an instrument.’

‘My wife passed away last June. We were married for 55 years and I miss her terribly. I try to continue our shared interest. For example, I still regularly go to classical concerts with friends. And it really did me good when The Netherlands Musical Instruments Foundation contacted me and suggested using the money that had been released to buy a double bass. It is a special instrument that was built in Manchester around 1850 by a well-known instrument maker. I was also asked what name I wanted to give the double bass. I didn't have to think about it for long: Theodora, my wife's first name.’
