Welcome to The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation. If you are looking for a suitable instrument but do not (yet) have the financial means to purchase one yourself, we can help. We have a collection of high-quality acoustic musical instruments such as string instruments, bows, grand pianos, harps and bassoons. We lend these out for longer periods to young talents, music students and professional musicians. We also lend instruments on a project basis. These include classical and baroque bows and special string and wind instruments.

What can we do for you?

For many musicians, it is difficult to acquire a good instrument during their (pre)education or at the start of their professional career. The purchase price is usually the biggest barrier. The costs of a loan, insurance and maintenance are also often high. Finding your ideal instrument is not easy and takes time. It is usually only after your studies that you gain the knowledge and experience to determine which instrument suits you in the long term. Will you choose a high-quality instrument from a contemporary maker, or will you look for an older instrument? And where exactly?

We offer you the opportunity to bridge this period with a high-quality loan instrument, for a fixed personal contribution and a low insurance premium. We are also happy to help you find your ideal instrument. We have the necessary knowledge and experience and are happy to share it with you.

Make sure you contact us in good time. The waiting time for an instrument can sometimes be more than a year.

About our support fund if things get tough

If you are unable to pay the usage fee due to special circumstances, you can apply to our Support Fund. You may be eligible for a temporary allowance towards the usage fee so that you can continue to play your instrument.

The Support Fund is temporary in nature. It is important that you take action to be able to pay the usage fee yourself again soon.

We are able to provide this support thanks to the help of private donors. The granting of support depends on the number of applications we receive each year and on what is available in the Support Fund that year.

Every year in September, we review which applications we can honour. Your application must therefore be received by us no later than 1 September.
