'About ten years ago, here in The Hague, I organized a major exhibition on Isaac Israels, together with four museums and the Hague Municipal Archives. I also wrote a book about the painter and his oeuvre at the time. Both the exhibition and the book were a success. Since then, I have been conducting art historical research and writing books.'
‘Besides visual art, I love classical music. The Ciconia Consort regularly plays concerts at the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague with musicians who have an instrument on loan from The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation. And some of the concert tickets go to people struggling financially, who might otherwise not be so tempted to attend a classical orchestra concert. I think that's wonderful, because classical music is for everyone.
Until five years ago, I had never heard of the foundation. It all started with a brochure. When I read about what The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation does, I immediately decided to make a regular donation. Not long after, I discovered that my neighbor, Leontien Kröner, happens to be a freelancer for the foundation.
I told her that, in addition to a regular donation, I'd also like to contribute to supporting the musicians in other ways, such as professional photography. This allows musicians to present themselves effectively, which is, of course, incredibly important. I think it's wonderful that they're being helped in this way. The resulting photos can be used by both the musicians and The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation.’
