Do you own a musical instrument that you no longer play? The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation may be a suitable destination if you are considering donating your instrument. In that case, we are very grateful in advance for your willingness to think of us! You can be assured that we will find a suitable destination for your instrument, even if the instrument cannot be included in foundation's collection.
A suitable destination for your instrument
The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation can usually use instruments very well to help the many musicians who have submitted applications. The fund is particularly interested in string instruments and grand pianos. These instruments are in highest demand. Whether other instruments are suitable for the foundation depends mainly on the financial value and condition of these instruments. We would of course be very grateful if you would like to donate your instrument to The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation.

Which instruments are accepted and which are not?
Grand pianos and upright pianos
In recent years, the fund has been able to build up a substantial collection of grand pianos thanks to donations and bequests from private individuals. The supply of grand pianos remains considerable, but circumstances unfortunately force us to be very selective. We can therefore only add grand pianos of very high quality, in optimal condition, and of the most common models to the collection. Grand pianos that require maintenance or repair costs are generally not accepted, unless the bequest or donation also includes an amount for this maintenance.
Unfortunately, we are unable to find a home for acoustic pianos, not even for refugees or other organizations. There is simply too little interest and too few opportunities for this.
Wind instruments
Most wind instruments cannot be included in the fund's collection. Their value is usually lower, making it more feasible for musicians to purchase an instrument themselves. In addition, many wooden wind instruments (oboes, clarinets) are subject to significant wear and tear. Bassons are an exception, as the wood does not crack or rot due to changes in the treatment of the interior.
No more instruments on loan from private individuals
Part of the current collection consists of instruments that we have gratefully received on loan from private individuals. Our wish for the future is to work towards a collection that is entirely our own property. For this reason, we will no longer be expanding the number of instruments on loan. The option to offer your instrument to us on loan is therefore no longer available.

We would be happy to discuss your instrument with you, but first we ask you to submit your offer using our online form (Dutch). We will contact you within two weeks of receiving your offer.

Tax benefit
Donating an instrument to foundation can have a tax advantage for you. Periodically recording the donation of your instrument means that you can receive a large part of your donation back from the Tax Authorities, depending on your own situation.
