'Someone recently donated their deceased mother's grand piano to The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation. I arranged a 'thank-you concert' for the family, held at the home of the musician who had the piano on loan. Such a thank-you concert is always a very special moment, both for the musician and the family. Sometimes the concert is held at a nursing home, if the donor still lives there.'
‘I also volunteer at ‘lunchtime concerts’ to raise awareness for the foundation. Not everyone is familiar with the foundation yet or has a good understanding of what we do. That's a shame. Before the wonderful perfomances, I briefly explain what we mean for musical talent in the Netherlands.
I also maintain contact with small venues that program chamber music ensembles. When one of our musicians performs there, I ask if they can mention the foundation in the program booklet or on their social media. I spend over a day a week on this voluntary work, which gives me great satisfaction.
Music plays a major role in my life. I attended choir school in Haarlem and performed with all kinds of choirs for years. I also organize the CruquiusConcerten, a chamber music series in Haarlemmermeer. But most importantly, I have a good feeling about The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation. During concerts, I see how happy and delighted musicians are to be able to play such a beautiful instrument.
It's meaningful that I can contribute to the development of musical talent, while at the same time enjoy this work.’
