an instrument
Professional performing musicians, students, and young talents with the potential to become professionals may apply for an instrument from our collection. The group of musicians we support is very diverse. From 11-year-old talents to experienced professionals, from jazz pianists to baroque gambists, from quartet members to soloists, from harpists to flamenco guitarists.
preparations
To apply, we ask for your CV, your motivation and your ideas about your future in music. Please send two recommendations from teachers or musicians who know you well as a musician. We attach great importance to video recordings of your playing. Please send links to recent recordings that you are 100% satisfied with.

Our Application Criteria

You are registered in the Netherlands and you have (or are building) a long-term connection with Dutch music life.

Your talent and level are endorsed by several experienced professional musicians or teachers. We ask you to send us two letters of recommendation.

You are undergoing positive musical development. This is evident from your CV.

You have clear ideas about your future in music and your connection to Dutch musical life. You have clear aspirations to continue your musical career at a professional level. You explain this in your motivation and future plans.

You can regularly be heard on stage, for example in competitions, as an orchestra member, as a soloist, in chamber music groups or jazz ensembles.

You are undergoing broad musical development; for instance, participating in courses, masterclasses, competitions, chamber music activities, orchestras, festivals.

You do not have an adequate instrument at your disposal. Please explain this in your application.

You can explain that you are not in a financial position to purchase a suitable instrument yourself.

you are willing to actively represent our foundation as an ambassador. In your motivation please include your thoughts on how you could fulfil this role.

Video recordings provide a good impression of who you are as a musician at this moment in time. We have strict requirements for video recordings. You can find them under Terms and Conditions and rates at the bottom of this page.

When assessing your application, we will of course take into account the stage of your education and career.

Do you meet the application criteria, have you prepared your video recordings and recommendations, and have you reviewed the terms and conditions and rates at the bottom of this page? Then you can submit your application. To do so, you will need an account.

this is how the procedure works
Once we have received your complete application, we will invite you for an introductory meeting with one of the collection managers. We will go through your application and tell you more about Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds and the practicalities of playing an instrument from our collection. You will, of course, have the opportunity to ask us any questions you may have.
We will process your application as soon as possible after the introductory meeting. We may seek advice from our Instrument Committee. This independent committee consists of specialists in the field of music and young talent development. If necessary, we will seek advice from external specialists.
Approximately eight weeks after the introductory meeting, we will contact you with our decision. (This may take a little longer in the summer and around the December holidays.)
There may be reasons to discuss the application in plenary session. In that case, the application will be considered during one of the three meetings held annually by the Instruments Committee. You will be notified of the decision within two weeks of the meeting.
The application procedure is ongoing. We process new applications every eight weeks. In the summer and around the end of December, it may take a little longer due to holidays.
