On Monday, April 1 (Easter Monday), the eight winners of the Coosje Wijzenbeek Prize will be offered a series of workshops on various aspects of making music and being a musician. The prize was established for the semifinalists of the Davina van Wely Prize at the Dutch Violin Competition.
The Coosje Wijzenbeek Prize was awarded for the second time last January during the Dutch Violin Competition. This special prize was established in memory of the late Coosje Wijzenbeek, violin teacher and founder of the Fancy Fiddlers. She would have turned 76 on April 18. The prize is intended to help young, talented violinists further develop both musically and professionally.
Coosje was a member of the Instrument Committee of the Musical Instrument Fund for 26 years.
The workshop day at Splendor Amsterdam consists of various masterclasses on stage performance and deepening personal leadership, taught by actor René van Zinnicq Bergmann, violinist Rosanne Philippens, and singer/dancer Rachel Farr. In this way, the organizers aim to do justice to Coosje’s teaching style.

In addition to participating in this workshop day, the eight winners will also be offered a performance by the Musical Instrument Fund. These concerts will take place on October 9 and October 24, 2024, at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, among other venues.
In 2022, we asked Coosje’s students, colleagues, and friends to share their stories for a short documentary—a visual portrait of “the nation’s favorite violinist.” Watch the video here:
