Pouya Azimi

violin, violin bow

My name is Pouya Azimi (2006), and I started taking violin lessons with Jasmijn Rais when I was nine years old. I soon stood out during a neighborhood concert at Theater Dakota, where I was noticed by Ilona Sie Dhian Ho, who then offered me a few masterclasses. This led to my admission to the School for Young Talent at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where I began in the 8th grade. There, I pursued both my musical education and my high school studies, and I earned my VWO diploma.

In the years that followed, I achieved success in various competitions. In 2019, I won second prize and the Audience Award during the regional final of the Princess Christina Competition in the Kleine Zaal at De Doelen. In 2023, I reached the national semifinals of this competition. In 2024, I once again reached the regional finals of the Princess Christina Competition and advanced to the semifinals of the Davina van Wely Competition.

I also gained extensive experience performing on stage. I performed as a soloist with Domestica, an ensemble of string players from the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam, and was invited to perform at the opening concert of the Stringtime Niederrhein festival in Germany. In addition, I reached the finals of Persia’s Got Talent and gave a solo television performance of “Summer” from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Recently, I performed as a soloist with Sinfonia Rotterdam, where I played, among other pieces, Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy and “Winter” from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons.

I am currently studying violin at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and am also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Delft University of Technology. In addition to my studies and music, I am active with Njord, the rowing club in Leiden.
