The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation receives weekly offers from people who want to give an instrument a new home.
Other organizations
The beautiful stories people tell about their instruments are often moving and show that they are looking for a worthy home for their cherished instrument. Unfortunately, only a very select number of instruments qualify for inclusion in the collection of the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation. That is why we must turn down many instruments. However, the foundation does feel a duty to help you as much as possible in finding a good home for an instrument. On this page, you’ll therefore find information about other organizations that could benefit from your instrument.
Keep Playing: Instruments for Refugees
Since the war in Ukraine began, The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation has launched a campaign to provide refugees with instruments they were forced to leave behind. Through this initiative, you can register your instrument, and the foundation can help find a suitable match for it. Currently, we are receiving more instruments than there are refugee musicians who have registered. That’s why finding a match can sometimes take a long time.

Leerorkest: Instrument Depot
The Instrument Depot manages more than 9,000 instruments that are made available to elementary schools. Elementary school students are also allowed to take the instrument home so they can practice there as well. These instruments are essential for a quality music education. Most of these children’s parents do not have the financial means to purchase an instrument themselves. The more instruments there are, the more children will be able to play one.

Muziekids Foundation
Muziekids is an organization based in Hilversum. Founder Robbert de Vos (guitar maker) has set up music studios in various hospitals where children and parents can go while they are in the hospital. This takes some of the burden off healthcare providers and allows children to take a brief break from their treatment.

General Music Foundation (SAM)
The General Music Foundation (SAM) has been in existence for over 45 years and is based in Haarlem. Its mission is to give amateur musicians the opportunity to play a musical instrument. Children or adults who would like to play an instrument, take music lessons, or try playing at home can rent an instrument from SAM. The music fund has approximately 225 instruments available for rent to anyone. SAM is a nonprofit organization. The low rental rates make it possible to discover whether you enjoy making music and which instrument suits you best.

St. Joseph 1880 Wind Ensemble, Weert
Harmonie St. Joseph 1880 from Weert is a thriving and growing music association that currently consists of approximately 125 active members ranging in age from 6 to 85. The association comprises various ensembles and orchestras. At Harmonie St. Joseph 1880, members can develop musically at a level that suits them and their ambitions. To this end, the association creates and maintains a challenging, inspiring, and respectful environment that embraces a wide range of modern and classical music genres, performed at a high level and appealing to as broad an audience as possible in the Weert region. The association invests heavily in youth training, but due to the association’s growth, its inventory of instruments has dwindled significantly. The association is therefore looking for wind and percussion instruments with which it can inspire young members to take an interest in music and continue their training.

Music for Children
The Music for Children Foundation helps children discover music. All children have the right to music education, because music offers them hope, inspiration, comfort, and joy. The foundation provides music education to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, where they learn to play an instrument together, build their self-confidence and social skills, and develop opportunities to earn their own income through performances.

The Educate Brass Foundation is an initiative in Uganda dedicated to providing children and young people with access to brass instruments and music education. The foundation collaborates with schools and local communities to introduce students to wind music, develop their musical skills, and create opportunities for performances and personal growth. Through access to instruments, mentorship, and ensemble training, the initiative aims to empower young people, nurture talent, and promote cultural exchange through music.

Is your heart in the province of Zeeland, and would you like to find a suitable home for your instrument here? If so, the Muziekdepot in Zeeland might be just the place for you. The depot is a collaboration between Muziekschool Zeeland, Toonbeeld, and Bax Music, and offers a diverse selection of instruments in both Middelburg and Terneuzen. The instruments are intended for beginner orchestras, music classes in elementary schools, and music projects in the social sector.

A review of The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation reveals that various music schools, pop schools, private schools, and teacher collectives welcome inquiries if you’d like to donate your instrument.
Music schools and other arts centers often don't have as large a collection as the other organizations on this list, but they might just be looking for your instrument.
