The wonderful stories people tell about the instrument are often moving and demonstrate their commitment to finding a worthy home for their cherished instrument. Unfortunately, only a very select number of instruments are eligible for addition to the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation’s collection. Therefore, we have to reject many instruments. However, the foundation feels obligated to help you find a good home for your instrument as much as possible. On this page, you will therefore find information about other organizations that could benefit from your instrument.

Doorspelen: instruments for refugees

Since the war on Ukraine, the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation has launched a campaign to provide refugees with instruments which they were forced to leave behind when leaving their country. You can donate your instrument to this project, and the foundation can help find a suitable match. This way, refugee musicians can continue playing!

Stichting Instrumentendepot Leerorkest

Het Instrumentendepot owns more than 9.000 instruments, which they give on loan to elementary schools. Students are allowed to take home the instruments, so they can practice at home too. These instruments help kick-start musical education. Most parents of these children are not able to buy an instrument themselves.

Muziekids is a non-profit organization based in Hilversum. Their goal is to give sick children and their parents a chance to create music while they’re hospitalized.

Educate Brass Foundation

Educate Brass Foundation is a community-based initiative in Uganda dedicated to providing children and young people with access to brass instruments and music education. The foundation works with schools and local communities to introduce students to brass music, develop musical skills, and create opportunities for performance and personal growth. Through instrument access, mentorship, and ensemble training, the initiative aims to empower young people, nurture talent, and promote cultural exchange through music.

Music for Children

Music for Children (Muziek voor Kinderen) provides music education to children in disadvantaged situations, enabling them to learn an instrument together, strengthen their self-confidence and social skills, and create opportunities to generate their own income through performances. Music for Children believes that all children have a right to music education because music offers them hope, inspiration, comfort and joy.

Reach out to your local music school, youth orchestra or cultural hub

Get in contact with a music school, youth orchestra or cultural hub close to you. After consulting the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation, we found that several music schools, private schools or teacher collectives would be happy to receive your instrument. Music schools often don't have a large collection like other organizations on this list, but they might just be looking for your instrument to help their students!
