Janna Maurer

violin

When Janna was six years old, she took her first violin lessons from Cécile Maassen in Utrecht. From 2014 to 2016, she studied with Coosje Wijzenbeek. During this time, she was a member of the ensemble “Fancy Fiddlers,” with which she performed in Ftan (Switzerland), the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo (Belgium), the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and on the television program “Podium Witteman” (now “Podium Klassiek”).

In 2016, Janna was admitted to the Utrecht Academy for Musical Talent, where she studied with Liesbeth Ackermans. During this time, her love for the chamber music repertoire was ignited. Since 2017, Janna has been part of a regular string quartet with which she attended masterclasses during the Zeister Muziekdagen for three summers. The members of the Jerusalem Quartet, the Casals Quartet, and the Schumann Quartet proved to be tremendous sources of inspiration. Since 2019, Janna has been studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Peter Brunt. For a time, she played in a string octet called the Amsterdam Doktet with fellow students from the Conservatorium. With this ensemble, she gave concerts in Portugal and the Netherlands. In September 2025, Janna began her master’s studies with Lisa Jacobs at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.

Janna takes great pleasure in playing a 1956 violin by Willem Bouman, made available by the Musical Instrument Fund.
