Daan Herweg

wing

Dear reader, my name is Daan Herweg, and I am a jazz pianist.

I studied jazz piano at the Amsterdam Conservatory and at the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Ever since my student days, I’ve been playing nonstop on the jazz scene with countless bands and ensembles. This includes both concert performances at festivals and beautiful venues, as well as gigs in jazz cafes and clubs. For the past 9 years, I’ve also been hosting one of Amsterdam’s most enjoyable jazz jam sessions at Café Nel on the Amstelveld.

Playing the piano is undoubtedly the foundation of my career, but I’m also a music producer and composer; I write music for a variety of artists and occasionally compose music for media projects. I have a nice studio in Amsterdam’s Bos en Lommer neighborhood.

Even though I’m managing to get by financially in the current cultural climate, a “truly” beautiful grand piano was never within reach for someone with my income. That’s why I’m as happy as a child that the Musical Instrument Fund exists—because thanks to the fund, I’m now the borrower of a magnificent Steinway from the M series with an otherworldly, refined sound and an amazing dynamic range. It’s an enormous source of inspiration for both piano study and composition.
