History of this instrument
The former owner of this grand piano had already bequeathed the instrument to the Musical Instrument Fund in her will. However, when her health began to decline and she realized she would no longer be able to play her beloved grand piano herself, she decided to donate it so that it would at least continue to be played. Various experts and pianists tried out the grand piano and praised its exceptional quality. Despite the piano’s age (built in 1909!), the soundboard was found to still have the proper tension, which is quite unique.
After a very extensive restoration, the grand piano was made available for a limited period to Splendor Amsterdam, a forward-thinking initiative launched and supported by musicians (Read more about Splendor here). In early 2015, the grand piano became available again, and the application from “Het Concertgemaal” (Read more about Het Concertgemaal here) was approved. Het Concertgemaal is located in one of the most beautiful spots in Amsterdam North: the old pumping station on Landsmeerderdijk. Renovated and transformed into a stunning workspace for creative entrepreneurs and artists from the surrounding area, it also serves as the first venue for classical music in Amsterdam-Noord.
