Fred Bettenhausen

built in Haarlem in 2000

A two-manual harpsichord modeled after Ioannes Ruckers (1612), built by Fred Bettenhausen in Haarlem, 2000. The original is located at the Musée d'art local et d'histoire régionale (Hôtel de Berny) in Amiens. The decoration is modeled after Gilbert Desruisseaux.

History of this instrument

After a long and successful career as an instrument maker, Fred Bettenhausen decided to retire in 2018. He wanted to find a good home for the various keyboard instruments he had crafted that were still in his shop at the time. The Musical Instrument Fund received a generous offer to select an instrument from his inventory. Olga Pashchenko agreed to help with the selection and ultimately fell in love with this beautiful instrument. The fund is immensely grateful to Fred Bettenhausen for this special donation, which was formalized in 2019. Incidentally, this donation is not an isolated act, as Bettenhausen had been a loyal donor to the fund since 2002. Artem Belogurov became the fortunate first player. In 2024, the instrument became available for the next candidate: Daniela Esther Lopez.
