History of this instrument
This grand piano was initially on loan starting in 1990 and was donated in 1996 by its private owner (the late Mrs. Moorman of Oegstgeest) to the Musical Instrument Fund, which financed the restoration that was necessary at the time. The grand piano has a beautiful “family history,” as evidenced by the moving and emotional correspondence with Mrs. Moorman included in the file. The grand piano was originally selected by her aunt, Martine Dhont, a piano and voice teacher in Utrecht. Mrs. Moorman herself had taken lessons from Gerard Hengeveld. The donation came with the condition that, should her grandson Johannes Jacobus den Herder pursue professional piano studies, the grand piano would be loaned to him by the fund. Bart van der Roer became the first player (1990–2000). In 2000, as stipulated by the donor, the grand piano went to her grandson Jacobus den Herder, who played it until 2020. After that, the grand piano went to Seán Morgan-Rooney, and following him, it was Luís Vaz who played the instrument. Jure Jurakić is currently the fortunate pianist.
