Louis Fourier Mangin (Gérard)

built in Mirecourt in ± 1850

A cello built by Gerard Mangin in Mirecourt, ca. 1850 (brand mark on the upper pegbox), with a label reading “J.B. Salomon à Paris.”

History of this instrument

This cello, along with the Lefèbvre cello (No. 160), was part of a small private collection that the Musical Instrument Fund was able to acquire in 1993. The instrument bears a label reading “J.B. Salomon á Paris,” but was built by G. Mangin in Mirecourt around 1850, as evidenced by the brand mark on the inside of the instrument. Marta Gonzalez Perez is the current player of the instrument. Among others, Charlotte Gulikers and Manuel Tavenier preceded her.
