The “Wim Dik Cello,” built by Gudrun Kremeier in Amsterdam, 2014.

History of this instrument

This cello was purchased in August 2015 by the Musical Instrument Fund from the luthier, Gudrun Kremeier. She built the cello in 2014 and presented it at an international violin-making competition in Paris, where the instrument received high praise from the jury. Prior to the purchase, the Musical Instrument Fund had the cello extensively tested for its sound by various cellists in a concert hall. The cello impressed in every respect and exceeded the cellists’ expectations. The Musical Instrument Fund was therefore able to rightfully name this cello the “Wim Dik Cello,” in honor of Wim Dik’s departure after 14 successful years as board chair. We found many donors willing to contribute toward the purchase. Florianne Remme was the first to play the Amsterdam cello; it is now in the hands of Nathalie Flintrop.
