Nathalie Flintrop

cello

My name is Nathalie, a Dutch cellist born and raised in Belgium. After high school, I studied cello at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I began my bachelor’s program in Mick Stirling’s class and completed it under Pieter Wispelwey, with whom I also had the privilege of pursuing my master’s degree. I have participated in masterclasses with, among others, Jérôme Pernoo, Dmitri Ferschtman, Gary Hoffman, Jean-Guihen Queyras, and Reinhard Latzko.

As a freelance musician, I have regularly shared the stage with various Dutch ensembles, including Pynarello, Cello Octet Amsterdam, Intercontinental Ensemble, and Fuse. I also co-founded the Noordwijk Chamber Music Festival with two friends and colleagues; the festival’s fifth edition took place in 2026.

In 2024, I joined the Ragazze Quartet as its new cellist, and since then I’ve had the pleasure of performing in many fantastic concerts and projects with them. Highlights include the “Normality No More” tour in 2025, featuring no fewer than 48 performances throughout the Netherlands; a concert series with a Scandinavian program that I had the privilege of curating myself; and a CD recording featuring various modern works by female composers.

As part of my master’s research, I studied Sibelius’s chamber music, after which I completed one of his unfinished pieces, the String Trio in G minor. The piece premiered in 2026.

I recently began learning to play the viola da gamba. It’s a wonderful addition to my musical life as a cellist.

The Musical Instrument Fund has loaned me a modern cello, built in 2014 by Gudrun Kremeier. I am incredibly grateful for this. The instrument has a pure, clear tone and responds well to what I ask of it. I look forward to many more years with this cello.
