During the semifinals of the 2022 Davina van Wely Prize, part of the Dutch Violin Competition, the Coosje Wijzenbeek Prize was awarded last Saturday. All eight semifinalists received a certificate, which serves as an invitation to a special masterclass and workshop day on stage presence and entrepreneurship.
The Coosje Wijzenbeek Prize pays tribute to the violin teacher who passed away in March of last year. In keeping with her philosophy, the prize was awarded to the eight semifinalists rather than to a single winner, because, according to Coosje, a competition in this age category is not about winning, but about the experience and the learning process.
The three finalists have now been announced for the Davina van Wely Prize (ages 14–17), the Iordens B Prize (ages 13–14), and the Iordens A Prize (ages 10–12). The semifinalists for the Oskar Back Prize (ages 18–26) have also been announced. Among the participating violinists in the Dutch Violin Competition are many familiar faces to the Musical Instrument Fund. At the bottom of this article, you will find the fund’s violinists who are currently still in the running for First Prize.
The finals will take place on January 23 and 29, 2022.
