The Musical Instrument Fund is celebrating its 35th anniversary: a moment worth commemorating. Thanks to the fund, musicians in the Netherlands know they are always guaranteed a good instrument that they can play for as long as they need it. In this way, the collection has been laying the groundwork for musical success for 35 years.

Appropriate instrument

A successful career as a professional musician begins with talent, discipline, and perseverance. A good dose of luck helps, too, but having the right instrument—one that matches a musician’s development and ambitions—is an absolute must.

Always Insured

Theo Olof, along with founder and creator Pieter Moerenhout, was closely involved in the foundation’s establishment. The legendary violinist played for years on an instrument that he was suddenly forced to give up. Olof turned that bitter experience into a positive one for countless instrumentalists. His vision and dream are embedded in the DNA of the Musical Instrument Fund. Musicians are connected to their instruments on a soul level. They realize that their development depends entirely on having the right instrument.

“I’m so grateful that I was able to trade in my grand piano for this Erard. It’s a special grand piano—as a musician, you really have to choose it. For me, it’s the key to moving forward—both now in my studies and later in my career. I hope to play it for many years to come, and I dream of excelling together on stage.”

In 1986, Pieter Moerenhout established a foundation dedicated to string instruments. Violinist Theo Olof became its chairman. On April 25, 1988, this foundation was renamed the Musical Instrument Fund. Now, 35 years later, the collection includes over 500 instruments and 250 bows, and the fund has already helped 2,500 musicians.
