The CruquiusConcerten Foundation has been organizing small-scale chamber music concerts since 2014. For the first 15 years, these took place at the Cruquius Museum in Haarlemmermeer, and since 2019, they have been held at the Kunstfort near Vijfhuizen.
Each season features a varied program of chamber music at the highest international level. Both the press and the audience are enthusiastic about the program, the selection of top musicians, and the venue’s acoustics. The interaction between the audience and the musicians makes every concert a special experience.
The historic Fort bij Vijfhuizen is one of the first concrete buildings in the Netherlands and forms part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam—a large-scale 19th-century defense plan that was never fully implemented and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The island is surrounded by distinctive examples of Dutch spatial planning, such as the 19th-century polder landscapes and the 20th-century Vinex architecture.
Since 2005, the fort island has been a destination for art, a unique place where visual art and military heritage converge. The exhibitions reflect the fort’s surroundings: a collage of man-made landscapes in which nature has been harnessed for various—now often outdated—purposes.
