Guy Maori

harpsichord

My name is Guy Maori and I'm an Israeli harpsichordist and pianist. I'm very grateful to the Musical Instrument Foundation for providing me with a double-manual harpsichord by Klop!

I'm always curious to hear how a musical piece would sound on the type of instrument that it was written for – Bach on harpsichord; Mozart on fortepiano; and John Cage on modern piano. I'm happy that I got to combine harpsichord studies together with piano and fortepiano, and see how the choice of playing baroque repertoire on harpsichord can bring about new ways to play expressively.

I started playing the piano at the age of 8 with Mrs. Natalia Blumenfeld and completed my Bachelor of Music studies in 2016 with professor Asaf Zohar at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel Aviv. Shortly after, I moved to Amsterdam to study piano with Naum Grubert for a Master of Music degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. During that Master's my interest in historical keyboard instruments was increasing and I fell in love with the sound of harpsichord and historical pianos. That led me to pursue another Master's in historical keyboards with Menno van Delft, Kris Verhelst and Olga Pashchenko.

Since then, I performed at Het Concertgebouw, NPO Radio 4 Festival, Early Music Festival in Utrecht, Podium Witteman, Grachtenfestival, NTR's Zomerfestival, Kamermuziek Festival in Hoorn, Huis te Linschoten, Festival Jong Talent in Schiermonnikoog and more. I also won the first prize in the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Competition 2020, as part of Duo Zeffiretti with sopranista Maayan Licht.

Thanks to the Foundation I now have a double-manual harpsichord with many possibilities that ignite my imagination and allow me to keep exploring and developing as a musician.
