Emil Giacometti

violin, violin bow

My name is Emil Giacometti. I’m 14 years old, and I really love playing the violin.

What I enjoy most about playing the violin is that you can create so many different timbres and share your own interpretation of the music with the audience, as well as playing together with others.

I started taking violin lessons with Coosje Wijzenbeek at a young age, playing a 1/32-size violin. Later, I played with her string ensemble, the Fancy Fiddlers, with whom we gave many concerts. Since Coosje’s passing in 2021, I’ve been taking lessons from Wiesje Miedema.

In 2023, as part of an educational program for schoolchildren, I had the opportunity to perform several times as a soloist with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in the Main Hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. That was so cool! In 2024 and 2026, I competed in the Dutch Violin Competition (winning the Iordens A and B prizes), and in 2025, I competed in the Princess Christina Competition.

In November 2025, I was allowed to choose a violin and a bow from the Musical Instrument Fund. There were no fewer than eight violins and seven bows laid out for me to choose from. I chose this beautiful Kunze violin and this lovely Millant bow, which makes the Kunze sound absolutely wonderful. I’m so happy with this beautiful violin and bow.
