Davita Laseur
violin
When I was eight, there was only one instrument I wanted to play: the violin. I started taking lessons with Roelof Klaassen, and shortly thereafter I also began playing the viola; I absolutely loved playing in youth orchestras. In 2018, I began my bachelor’s degree with Vera Beths at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, which I completed “cum laude” in 2022.
Chamber music is one of my great passions; playing together and communicating through music gives me a lot of energy. I’ve played extensively in string quartets and with my piano trio, the “Santiago Trio,” as well as in various ensembles outside the conservatory. I’m also very interested in orchestral playing. Among other things, I’ve enjoyed playing in the NJO. I’ve taken masterclasses with Daniel Rowland and Liza Ferschtman, among others.
I am currently studying with Peter Brunt in the master’s program. In addition to music, I am studying medicine at VU University Amsterdam and am trying to combine the best of both worlds. Despite the challenges this entails, it is also very enriching: the inspiration, focus, and intuition that are essential in music are just as necessary for a good doctor. And the insight into human nature and all the experiences I gain in the hospital add depth to my playing.
Thanks to the Musical Instrument Fund, I am now able to play this beautiful Miremont violin, with which I felt a connection from the very first moment I held it in my hands. The new sounds, tones, and depth of this violin inspire me immensely. I hope to share this joy with as many people as possible!
