built in Paris in 1881

A violin built by Claude Augustin Miremont in Paris, 1881. Part of the “Oskar Back Collection.”

History of this instrument

In 2009, the Oskar Back Study Fund (SOB) decided to transfer its entire collection of violins to the Musical Instrument Fund, so that musicians would have a single point of contact. Part of the SOB collection had been loaned by private individuals. The majority of those individuals agreed to transfer management of their instruments to the Musical Instrument Fund. The remaining part of the collection was owned by the SOB. Of those instruments, the SOB donated eleven violins to the Musical Instrument Fund, including this violin made by Miremont. Marieke Ravesloot was the first to play the violin; she was followed by Tim Brackman and Eva Traa, among others. Currently, Davita Laseur is the lucky player.
