Alex HyeJun Hwang
grand piano
My name is Alex HyeJun Hwang (2007) and I play the piano. I am grateful to the Musical Instrument Fund for entrusting this grand piano to me, so that I can create beautiful music.
I started playing the piano when I was 7 years old. After two years, I was admitted to the YMA Preparatory Program at the Tilburg Conservatory, where I studied until July 2023. Starting in April 2023, I will be studying with Marlies van Gent.
Of course, I’ve also participated in many competitions, where I’ve won some great prizes: a spot in the finals of the 2022 Royal Concertgebouw Competition, first place at the 2024 Steinway Piano Competition, and second place at the 2024 Princess Christina Competition (West 1 region).
I’m also invited to perform at concerts and piano festivals. Recently, I performed at the Culemborg Piano Festival, the Chopin Piano Festival, and the Aurora Festival.
To further expand my piano repertoire, I have taken masterclasses with renowned pianists and teachers, including Hannes Minnaar, Paul Komen, Clara Biermasz, and Riko Fukuda.
I am very happy with this Bechstein L-170 grand piano. When I first encountered this instrument, I was immediately certain that it was the right choice. It has exactly the sound—and above all, the warmth—that I expect from a grand piano. With my new companion, I can play any piece by any composer, from Chopin to Ravel. I’d like to thank the Musical Instrument Fund once again!
I’m currently a student at Haganum in The Hague. Besides playing the piano, I enjoy sports and reading.
