Kees van Hemert (1956, Swan Hill, Australia) began his training as a bow maker in the workshop of violin maker Mathijs de Jong in Perth, Australia. In 1994, he moved to the Netherlands, where he worked as a bow maker for violin maker Willem Bouman in The Hague until he established himself as an independent bow maker in that same city in 1996. Van Hemert feels very much at home in The Hague, not least because of the renowned Baroque department at the Royal Conservatory located there. Partly because of this, Van Hemert found the inspiration to specialize in classical and Baroque models in addition to making modern bows. Through his personal approach, Van Hemert strives to make each bow a unique work of art. Van Hemert won the “City of Perth Crafts Award for Excellence” and is a member of the Dutch Association of Violin and Bow Makers. More information about Kees van Hemert and his bows can be found on his website.
