violin
Giovanni Maria del Bussetto
built in 1680
A violin built by Giovanni Maria del Bussetto in Italy, ca. 1680. Later top by François Caussin, France, ca. 1850. Anonymous scroll, made in Italy (based on an appraisal by Hieronymus Köstler in Stuttgart, 2024). The violin is part of the “Oskar Back Collection” (Oskar Back insurance number 5).
History of this instrument
In 2009, the Oskar Back Study Fund (SOB) decided to transfer its entire collection of violins to the Musical Instrument Fund, so that musicians would have a single point of contact. Part of the SOB collection had been loaned by private individuals. Most of those private individuals agreed to transfer management of their instruments to the Musical Instrument Fund. The remainder of the collection was owned by the SOB. Of those instruments, the SOB donated eleven violins to the Musical Instrument Fund, including this Bussetto. Marike Brokamp was the first to play the violin, followed by Annerien Stuker. Currently, Marcel Sutedja is the fortunate player.
