A violin built by Vincenzo Panormo in London, 1810.

History of this instrument

The Musical Instrument Fund received this Panormo violin on loan in 2013 from a private collector in Hunsel. The Panormo has been in the family’s possession for decades and was originally played by an aunt who was a music teacher. Marije Johnston-Ploemacher played the Panormo starting in 2013 as part of the Navarra String Quartet, which is based in London—a city where the Panormo would undoubtedly have felt at home, since it was built there in 1810. Since 2017, the violin has been in the possession of Marleen Wester. Within the Dudok Quartet, of which Marleen is a member, the Panormo is joined by three other instruments from the collection.
