Anonymous old-Dutch

built in Amsterdam in ± 1680

An anonymous violin, built in Amsterdam in the late 17th century, modeled after Rogeri and bearing the label “Amati.”

History of this instrument

The Musical Instrument Fund purchased this Old Dutch violin (with a fake Amati label) in 2006 from a Dutch dealer. The maker must have seen the work of his contemporary Giovanni Battista Rogeri from Brescia, as the design of this violin is undoubtedly inspired by Rogeri’s work. The purchase was made possible thanks to financial support from the Cultuurfonds and the K.F. Hein Fund. The violin was first loaned to Floor Braam. In 2009, it went to Johan Olof, who played it for over 11 years. The violin is currently in the possession of Alyssa Wright.
