viola bow

Daniel ter Berg

built in The Hague (?) in ± 1975

A viola bow, made by Daniël ter Berg, ca. 1975. The octagonal shaft, frog, and tip are not original; a tortoiseshell frog with a double eye (gold-mounted) is in the archive. Weight: 70 grams.

History of this instrument

In 1995, the Musical Instrument Fund received a large collection of no fewer than 38 bows, a violin, and a viola as a gift from the mother of Daniël ter Berg, a bow maker who died young. Most of the bows were made by Daniël ter Berg himself, such as this viola bow. Ana Glisic was the first to play this bow, followed by Els Goossens and Vera van Gerwen. Currently, the bow from The Hague is in the possession of Laura Oomens.
