History of this instrument

In 2002, Quirijn van Regteren Altena and Peter Stotijn (both principal bassists of the Residentie Orkest) shared playing duties on the instrument. Subsequently, Maksym Minakow played the double bass. With Luis Cabrera Martin as the primary user, a contract was signed with the NedPhO in 2010 for use by multiple double bassists in the orchestra. Since 2013, a similar arrangement has been in place with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. With the loan of the Mandelli double bass, the Musical Instrument Fund and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta have entered into a partnership whereby high-level double bassists can, upon invitation, have access to this instrument as long as they participate in the orchestra’s projects. Fiona Arens, Jantine Postma, Ximo Clemente Riera, and Andreia Alexandra Rosa have all played this bass from Calco. It is now in the hands of Alberto Monge Mansilla.
