To measure is to know

The Musical Instrument Fund relies on two key groups: musicians and donors. To measure satisfaction among our talented musicians and donors, we engaged two research firms. This will enable the Musical Instrument Fund to tailor its services to musicians’ needs as effectively as possible and to further develop its donor policy. Here you can read the key findings in a nutshell. Our heartfelt thanks to all participants!

What do our talented employees think?

Satisfaction Among Musicians

In collaboration with the research firm Motivaction, we surveyed the satisfaction levels, wishes, and needs of musicians who have an instrument or bow on loan. What do they think of the application process? How do they experience our communication? Do they recommend us to fellow musicians? In short: what do they think of us? The results show that our expertise and deeply personal commitment are greatly appreciated. In addition, the quality of the instruments is a key factor, and the musicians feel a strong connection to the fund. We are very pleased with the excellent score of 9 that we received for overall satisfaction.

On the other hand, there are a number of areas for improvement: the procedure for extending the loan period causes stress for one-third of our employees, and the content of our communication channels sometimes does not adequately meet the needs of our talented employees. We will, of course, take these results and recommendations to heart when making future decisions.

One of the questions:

How likely are you to recommend the Musical Instrument Fund to other musicians?

And what do our donors think?

A well-considered choice

Terra Nova Partners in Research was commissioned to analyze donors’ giving behavior. We were curious to learn how donors come into contact with the Musical Instrument Fund and what motivates them to donate. The results show that donors give careful consideration to the amount, frequency, and method of their donations. The preference is for a monthly or annual donation via direct debit. Donors view the magazine and the (lunch) concerts as a nice gesture of appreciation. They do not feel that any further compensation is necessary.

Quite a few donors were introduced to the fund through NPO Klassiek and Podium Klassiek, but most were introduced primarily through family and friends. The majority occasionally talk about the fund with others, and the magazine appears to be the cornerstone of communication. Donors make a very conscious decision to support Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds. Key to this is the combination of their love for classical music and their desire to support the foundation’s mission: to provide talented musicians with quality instruments and to ensure that valuable instruments continue to be played.

A modest approach

Respondents believe that the Musical Instrument Fund should feel free to ask donors to increase their donations. The fund may also inform its donors about the benefits and reasons for entering into a donation agreement, as well as the advantages of monthly giving over annual giving. This is permissible as long as communication on these matters remains consistent with the familiar, modest approach characteristic of the Musical Instrument Fund. The wishes and recommendations of the donors themselves are also modest. Suggestions include a better distribution of (lunch) concerts throughout the country and entering into more partnerships with other music and cultural institutions.

One of the questions:

How did you first hear about the Musical Instrument Fund?

A total of 376 donors answered this question.

Other sources include: forwarded newsletters (1%), social media (1%), a referral (1%), and an event other than a concert (2%)
