Krijn Koetsveld
from Klop

From Friday, June 24, through July 1, another edition of the organ festival will take place at the Grote Kerk in Alkmaar. An international program featuring inspiring musicians and music is ready to go, the competition participants have been announced, and the academy is set to open its doors to exciting venues in and around Alkmaar. The Monteverdi organ from the collection of Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds is a must-see!
The festival aims to introduce young organists to the world-famous organs of the Grote Sint Laurenskerk in Alkmaar and to provide them with a stage. In the competition and the academy held during the festival, the Van Covelens organ (1511) and the large Van Hagerbeer/Schnitger organ (1646/1725) serve as the benchmark for interpretation. With their sublime tonal character and beautiful appearance, the Alkmaar organs play a pioneering role in passing on organ culture.
Ensemble Le Nuove Musiche, conducted by Krijn Koetsveld, will perform the opening concert on June 25 (8:15 p.m.). Koetsveld is the driving force behind the construction of a Monteverdi organ, a project in which the NMF was happy to participate. The Klop company completed the organ in 2019, featuring decorative paintings by the Italian artist Michele Barchi. Krijn will perform on the organ, playing music by Merula and Monteverdi.
The Monteverdi organ has become a highly sought-after instrument and can be seen on many stages and at festivals. In addition to Krijn Koetsveld, it can be played by other organists and ensembles. Requests for its use are processed through the Musical Instrument Fund.
