In Memoriam:
Wim Dik
We are saddened by the passing of the honorary chairman of the Musical Instrument Fund, Prof. Wim Dik (1939–2022). Wim’s contribution to the fund cannot be overstated.
For nearly 15 years, Wim led the Musical Instrument Fund as chairman of the board with all his heart, passion, and expertise. When he took office in 2001, he brought much-needed order to the organization in his own way. Marcel Schopman was appointed director almost immediately after Wim took office. That brought a second star player on board. Under Wim’s leadership, Marcel set to work professionalizing the Musical Instrument Fund. This was reflected, among other things, in raising the fund’s profile. The Musical Instrument Fund gained a public profile. Everything Marcel did for the fund over the years always had Wim’s (tacit) approval.
Wim was always in good spirits and very decisive. He exuded confidence, including toward every member of the team. Wim never missed any of the fund’s important events. And when his health forced him to sit these events out, he would call afterward, showing genuine interest, to ask how it had gone—and he always had a helpful tip to share for next time. Recently, a few of us musicians went to visit him and were able to give a concert that meant a lot to him. It’s strange to realize that he’s no longer with us. We will miss his dedication and warm personality immensely. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his wife, family, and loved ones.
