The Strad

The first issue of The Strad was published in May 1890, when Brahms dedicated his Violin Concerto to Joseph Joachim. Since then, all of the world’s top musicians have graced the pages of the magazine with their exceptional instruments. The Strad is an indispensable reference work for musicians, teachers, luthiers, experts, and enthusiasts of stringed instruments.

12 Global Stars from the Fund

For the 2022 annual calendar, The Strad has partnered with the Musical Instrument Fund. Our instrument collection has grown to become one of the largest in Europe, with a total value of over €36 million. Twelve instruments from Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds, accompanied by high-quality photographs by Cathy Levesque, now grace the calendar, which is ordered by enthusiasts worldwide. It is also a first that an old Dutch instrument (Hendrik Jacobs) is featured alongside the great Italian and French masters.
