Tim de Vries
violin bow
My name is Tim de Vries; I’m 19 years old and have been playing the violin since I was seven. I’m studying in Vienna with Professor Boris Kuschnir at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien; previously, I studied with Ilya Grubert at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
Ever since I was ten, I’ve been a very enthusiastic ambassador for Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds; I currently play a beautiful bow made by Stüber (The Hague, 1940). I have won prizes at all the major competitions in the Netherlands, including the Britten Violin Competition and the 2018 Princess Christina Competition, where I was awarded first prize and the Press Prize with my piano trio, Trio Diotima.
I have participated in masterclasses with, among others, Simone Lamsma, Christian Tetzlaff, Liviu Prunaru, Jean-Bernard Pommier, and Lu Siqing. I regularly perform as a soloist with orchestras both at home and abroad; I have given concerts in countries such as Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, Canada, and the United States. I have performed in many prominent concert halls, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, De Doelen in Rotterdam, and Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht.
I have appeared regularly in the media, including in *De Volkskrant*, *Elsevier Weekblad*, and *Fries Dagblad*; I have also been a guest on programs such as *De Wereld Draait Door* and *Podium Witteman*. I play a violin built in 1839 by Enrico Ceruti in Cremona, which has been loaned to me by a private collector.
