Silvia Gallego Sánchez

I am a spanish double bass player living in the Netherlands since 2016. 

I came to do my bachelors degree with Olivier Thiery and Rick Stotijn at CvA. After finishing my studies, the musical scene in Amsterdam and throughout the Netherlands inspire me to stay. I continued doing a contract student in advance Rhythm. In 2022 I got the academy at Rotterdams Philharmonish Orkest and from January 2026 I'll start playing with Radio Filharmonisch Orkest as tutti player.

I love playing in orchestra, I have done that since I was very little so I feel very secure and safe in that space where there are so many lines and musical personalities coming together in one. 

Combining with orchestra freelancing, I enjoy very much chamber music settings. Since 2018 I'm the bass player of Kamerorkest van het Noorden,(Groningen) with whom I enjoy very much having my own voice and comunicating in a deeper way. I also perform with chamber groups such as NBE, Pynarello, Asko Schöberg, New European ensemble and others.

Since January 2025, thanks to Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds, Harry Jansen's bass has been fitted with an extension, allowing it to reach lower notes. The extension, made by Melle Wondergem, has made the instrument sound much fuller and richer.
