Sanne van der Horst

cello

My name is Sanne van der Horst, and I’ve been a borrower from the Musical Instrument Fund for quite a few years now.During my first phase of studies in The Hague, I first came into contact with the Fund through my teacher, Marien van Staalen. And thanks to this wonderful fund, I was able to use the Boulangeot cello and a bow by D. ter Berg during my studies. But after a few years of hard work, finishing my final exams, and starting with a new teacher (Harro Ruijsenaars), it was time for something new.

And a few years ago, I was introduced to my current instrument, the B.S. Fendt cello—a beautifully warm instrument that I’m incredibly happy with! It’s a true chamber music powerhouse—dark and warm in tone, yet it can also shine with a beautiful, open brilliance. In short, it’s a very versatile instrument from which I learn something new every day!
