viola
I have been a borrower from the Musical Instrument Fund since 1996. That year, I was given the opportunity to play a remarkable Max Möller I viola, which belonged to Klaas Boon, former principal violist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. So I not only had the opportunity to play a high-quality instrument, but also to get to know the person behind it. For many years, until his death in 2002, I visited Klaas regularly, and even now I still use much of his sheet music. It was a unique experience to be able to share in that!
Since 2005, I have been the proud owner of my current instrument, a Giovanni Pistucci from Naples, circa 1910. The instrument blends beautifully in various ensembles and has a warm, even tone. In my role as concertmaster and guest concertmaster in various chamber orchestras, I couldn’t ask for a more suitable instrument than this powerful Italian instrument.
