Rik Otto
cello bow
Hello.
My name is Rik Otto, and I’m a cellist.
I started playing the cello when I was 15. After five years, I began studying at the Brabant Conservatory in Tilburg (now the Fontys Conservatory). I studied under György Schiffer and Mirel Iancovice. After graduating from the conservatory, I studied with Godfried Hoogeveen. I also received chamber music instruction from Jo Juda. During and after my studies, I participated in various competitions in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Romania, and other countries.
For many years, I gave recitals with Martien Maas (accompanist at the Fontys Conservatory) and performed as a soloist with orchestras. In addition to all this, I have served as a cellist in various orchestras both in the Netherlands and abroad. Since 1996, I have been a permanent cellist with the North Netherlands Orchestra in Groningen. Since 2000, I have been a cellist with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in Amsterdam. In addition to this orchestra, he has also performed extensively in chamber music settings with various quartets and trios.
