Reo Pramana

violin, violin bow

My name is Reo Theodore Pramana (2010). I play the violin and piano, and I also compose music. I started playing the violin at the age of seven and was admitted to the School for Young Talent at the Royal Conservatory when I was ten. I then studied at the Sweelinck Academy of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Sarah Kapustin. Since 2023, I have been playing a violin and bow provided by the Musical Instrument Fund.

In addition to my development as a violinist, I have focused heavily on piano and composition in recent years. I take piano lessons from Marlies van Gent and composition lessons from Martijn Padding. In 2023, I received the Development Prize, and in 2024, the Gaudeamus Prize from the Princess Christina Classical Competition. In 2024, I won first prize at the Princess Christina Composition Competition; in 2022, I received second prize and the Audience Award there.

I also perform with my younger sister Raelene, who also plays the violin. In 2023, we were invited to perform together at the presidential palace in Jakarta. During Composer’s Day 2025 and the Gaudeamus Festival 2026, we performed my compositions together.

My compositions have been performed by, among others, the Matangi Quartet, the Belinfante Quartet, the But What About Trio, and the Ear to the Earth Ensemble, both in the Netherlands and abroad. In 2024, I participated in the Juilliard Summer Composition program at The Juilliard School in New York. I also took masterclasses with David Takeno, Boris Garlitsky, Hannes Minnaar, Riko Fukuda, and Ananda Sukarlan, among others.
