"The cello is an instrument that really suits me and allows me to tell a story. A lot of beautiful music has been written for the cello, but I find Baroque music the most beautiful to play."
I was almost six when I started playing the cello. For the first few years, my mother taught me, and starting in 2012, I studied with Lucia Swarts at the Royal Conservatory.
Since August 2022, I have been continuing my studies with Joel Krosnick at the Juilliard School in New York.
In recent years, I have won several prizes at competitions, including the Britten Cello Competition, the Princess Christina Competition, and first prize at the Royal Concertgebouw Competition in 2015. In 2020, I won the Encouragement Prize at the National Cello Competition in Amsterdam. I am also a laureate of Classic Young Masters.
I have given many concerts both in the Netherlands and abroad, including several solo recitals. In June 2018, I performed as a soloist with the Residentieorkest in the main hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam during the Young Talent Gala. In the summer of 2019, I performed as a soloist in Brahms’s Double Concerto with the Atheneum Chamber Orchestra.
For the Dutch Bach Society’s AllofBach project, I recorded the Third Cello Suite in October 2017. This recording has been online since April 2018 and has been viewed nearly 1 million times since then.
I have also taken several masterclasses, including those with Raphael Pidoux, Marcio Caineiro, Gavriel Lipkind, Aldo Mata, and Anner Bijlsma.
In addition to the beautiful cello I’m able to borrow from the Musical Instrument Fund, I also play the Baroque cello.
