Phoebe Tarleton (1998) is an ambitious young English violinist based in Amsterdam.

She is quickly building a career as a sought-after orchestral and chamber musician, having performed with many major orchestras in the Netherlands and worked with leading conductors, such as Andrew Grams, Anja Bihlmaier, Daniele Gatti, Karina Canellakis, Hakan Hardenberger, Peter Stark, Matthew Rowe, Ed Spanjaard, Jun Märkl, and Antony Hermus.

Phoebe was awarded a full scholarship to study at Wells Cathedral School. During her time at Wells, she toured through the UK, Germany and Switzerland as associate concertmaster of Wells Virtuosi, a string chamber orchestra and won the Yfrah Neaman prize for ‘best string player’ in 2016.

Passionate about chamber music, Phoebe is the concertmaster of the Zemlinsky Chamber Orchestra, a newly formed ensemble that focuses on extraordinary yet lesser-known composers or underrated music. In 2021, the orchestra performed the dutch premiere of Zemlinsky’s Kammersymphonie arranged by Richard Dünser.

As part of the Grafenegg Academy Orchestra, which also has a focus on diverse repertoire, Phoebe performed Helen Grime’s Percussion Concerto with soloist Colin Currie, Haydn’s Military Symphony with Tomo Keller as well as pieces by Bela Bartok, Caroline Shaw and HK Gruber.

As a string quartet player, Phoebe was part of the Nederlands Strijkkwartet Academie (NSKA) and had masterclasses with Lukas Hagen, Quatour Danel, Luc-Marie Aguera, Noboku Imai and Richard Lester to name a few. In 2019, her quartet won first prize in the Maassluis chamber music competition and took part in the Virtuoso and Belcanto Festival in Lucca.

In 2022, Phoebe toured the Netherlands with Het Balletorkest for the Hans van Manen Festival.

Other highlights include performances in Het Concertgebouw, Berlin Konzerthaus, Wolkenturm (Campus Grafenegg), Royal Festival Hall (London), de Doelen (Rotterdam) and Westminster Hall (Queen's diamond jubilee).

Phoebe studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Peter Brunt and Tjeerd Top and graduated in 2021. Phoebe currently plays a L. Morizot bow kindly on loan from the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation.
