Milan van de Griendt

violin, violin bow

My name is Milan van de Griendt (2005), and I’m studying violin at the Utrecht Conservatory with Chris Duindam. I’ve had the great pleasure of playing this beautiful instrument by Lambert Houniet since 2024.

I started playing the violin in 2011. I was also introduced to chamber music at a young age. Since then, I haven’t been able to do without it, and I play in various ensembles.

Until 2023, I studied with Liora Ish-Hurwitz, and since 2023 I have been studying with Chris Duindam, under whom I also began my bachelor’s degree at the Utrecht Conservatory in 2024.

I find making music together to be one of the most enjoyable things there is, which is why, in addition to smaller ensembles, I also take great pleasure in playing in orchestras. Until 2025, I was concertmaster of the Amersfoort Youth Orchestra (AJO), where I had the opportunity to perform a solo in the spring of 2025. I also performed with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra at the Arte Musica Amersfoort festival. In addition, I played in orchestras such as the Netherlands Student Orchestra (NSO) in 2026 as associate concertmaster and the Sweelinck Orchestra. In 2026, I was a member of the Netherlands Youth Orchestra (NJO).

Since 2026, I have also been active as a teacher, giving violin lessons to children and students.

I am very grateful to the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation for allowing me to play this instrument. It’s fantastic to discover just how many possibilities this violin offers in terms of contrast and dynamics. This violin gives me the opportunity to continue developing as a violinist.
