Michiel Wittink

viola bow

I am very grateful to be able to create sounds with the bow that complement my instrument.

Michiel Wittink (Amsterdam, 1995) studied viola with Francien Schatborn at the Amsterdam Conservatory and with Rachel Roberts at the Guildhall School for Music & Drama in London. He also completed his degree in clinical psychology at VU University Amsterdam.

He has performed with various orchestras, including the Aurora Orchestra, Orchestra Mozart, Pynarello, Residentie Orkest, and the Noord Nederlands Orkest, and has served as concertmaster for the European Union Youth Orchestra, the Amsterdam Modern Orchestra, and the National Youth Orchestra, among others. Michiel was also selected to participate in Spira Mirabilis.

He is also very active as a chamber musician. For example, he co-founded “de Formule”: an ensemble that blends various artistic disciplines into performances.

In addition, he has performed at various festivals, including the Harmos Festival in Porto, the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam, the Aurora Festival in Sweden, the Encuentro de Santander in Spain, Young Euro Classics in Berlin, the MISA Festival in Shanghai, the Orlando Festival, and the European Chamber Music Academy.

He takes great pleasure in playing a viola built by Theo Marks (2016). His bow, made by Albert Nurnberger, was provided to him by the Musical Instrument Fund.
