Marie-José Schrijner

violin

My name is Marie-José Schrijner, and I’m a violinist. For many years, I played with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta as the second violin section leader. Now, for 34 years now, I’ve been the first violinist with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

In addition, chamber music is my favorite. For many years, I performed with Domestica R’dam, a string ensemble from the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra focused on early classical music, sometimes incorporating theatrical elements. In between the symphony orchestra’s busy schedule, I perform educational and chamber music programs in various ensembles and give living room concerts with friends from the Sinfonietta.

I’ve been playing the Camilli violin from Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds for 37 years now. It’s easy to see why: It has a warm tone, isn’t too harsh on the ear, but still carries well. Moreover, it feels wonderful in my hands. It’s ideal for performing both orchestral and chamber music. I often receive compliments on this beautiful instrument—both for its sound and its appearance—and rightly so!
