Marc Hornes

violin, violin bow

As a musician, I think it’s incredibly cool that I get to make music every day! Luckily, I now get to do that with an amazing violin by Lambert Houniet, which helps me play as beautifully as possible.

Even as a child, I knew I wanted to pursue the arts; I first tried dance, then piano, and finally started playing the violin when I was 9 (in 2016). I started taking lessons from my mother (Annemarie van Prooijen), after which I completed my preparatory training at the Codarts Lyceum in Rotterdam. Now I’m studying at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen and taking lessons from Ilona Sie Dhian Ho.

I play in the duo “Pleiades” (violin and cello) with Scarlett Waakop Reijers and also frequently perform with small projects/ensembles or on pop recordings, for example.

Since the end of May 2025, I have been playing a violin (from 1990) by Lambert Houniet. The violin has a beautifully dark tone while still offering enough space to bring out a wide range of tonal colors. That’s helpful, because I’m still very much exploring what kind of sound I want to create. The bow is also helpful because it’s very versatile and has enough power to really drive the music forward. I’m very happy with this violin and bow and hope to play and perform with them many more times!
