Keiko Shichijo

grand piano

Pianist and fortepianist Keiko Shichijo is a distinctive voice in both the classical and contemporary music worlds. Her traditional Japanese sensibilities, combined with her knowledge of European historical performance practices, shape her unique vision, which is reflected in her understanding of the music, the instruments, and the stories behind them.

Originally from Japan and a resident of the Netherlands for over a decade, she performs worldwide in both solo and chamber music settings. She is a prize winner in numerous international competitions and has released two fortepiano CDs. Her second solo CD, “6 Dances by Komitas Vardapet” (2016), received widespread acclaim in the international press and was featured on the Dutch TV program “Vrije Geluiden.”

Keiko teaches piano and fortepiano at the Fontys Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Tilburg and teaches piano at KASK and the Conservatorium School of Arts in Ghent, Belgium.

Keiko plays a fortepiano built by Pleyel in Paris (1843), on loan from the Musical Instrument Fund.
