I’ve been playing this double bass, crafted by luthier Harry Jansen, since July 2019. It’s a beautiful, versatile instrument with a clear tone ideal for solo pieces and chamber music. Its deep bass sound also shines in both large and smaller orchestras. Starting in January 2026, the double bass will be enhanced with a C extension by Melle Wondergem, which will further expand its range in the lower register.
In 2013, I began my bachelor’s program at the Utrecht Conservatory under Quirijn van Regteren Altena. After thoroughly enjoying my studies there, I went on to pursue my master’s degree at Codarts in Rotterdam, with Matthew Midgley as my primary instructor and additional lessons with Luis Cabrera. I have also taken lessons with, among others, Aristotelis Potamianos, Ying Lai Green, and Robert Franenberg.
This instrument has enabled me to successfully complete my master’s degree in 2020 and has allowed me to continue developing both technically and musically ever since. The double bass can be heard in various concerts with orchestras and small ensembles.
