Joshua Tavenier

violin

Joshua Tavenier (2005). “His playing is ‘cool,’ impressive, musical, and passionate, and playing the violin seems to come relatively easily to him. At a time when classical music is increasingly losing its traditional footing, young violinists like Tavenier offer hope for the future.” Wenneke Savenije - De Nieuwe Muze (2022)

The violin has been my greatest passion since I was four. My musical studies began with Coosje Wijzenbeek in Hilversum and later at the Sweelinck Academy for Young Talent in Amsterdam. From 2021 to 2023, I studied with Chris Duindam at the Academy for Musical Talent under the direction of Erika Waardenburg.

I am currently studying with Marc Danel at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse (CNSMD) in Lyon.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing in the string ensemble the Fancy Fiddlers, with whom I performed in various chamber music ensembles on stages both in the Netherlands and abroad. I had the opportunity to further my development through masterclasses with, among others, Charles Watt, Nadia Wijzenbeek, Marc Danel, Julia Fischer, Raphael Merlin, and Valentin Erben.

In 2022, I won first prize in the Davina van Wely category at the Dutch Violin Competition. I also received the prize for the best performance of the modern work *Riffs* by Joey Roukens and the Coosje Wijzenbeek Prize. That same year, I won the regional final of the Princess Christina Competition.

Since 2024, I have had the great privilege of playing a beautiful violin by Riccardo Antoniazzi, an instrument with a rich, powerful, and colorful tone.
